University of Utah Alumni House
Salt Lake City, UT: Cleone Peterson Eccles Alumni House
OWNER: University of Utah
ARCHITECT: EDA Architects
SIZE: 3,000 SF addition; 13,000 SF demolition and remodel
Originally built by Zwick Construction in 1980, the University of Utah Alumni House acts as a meeting place for alumni and other dignitaries of the university. As the years passed, the growth of the university required an expansion and redesign; over 35 years later, Zwick was hired again by the owner to remodel and build-out the space.
Zwick completed a thorough preconstruction process, bringing this project within budget and defining an aggressive schedule. To begin, the project required a complete demolition of the building, down to the structural elements, then comprised of a two-level expansion and redesign of the exterior.
The alumni house is located in the heart of the University of Utah’s busy campus, and since the remodel took place during semesters, the team had to make special considerations for academic schedule, as well as vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
The remodeled space features banquet areas, public spaces, offices, a large kitchen and catering support area, and many public gathering areas.
