With 2024 behind us, monthly safety audits have been finalized. We’re excited to announce the 2024 Safe Project of the Year Award recipient—the Yorba Linda California Temple project. This is a major accomplishment that requires consistent dedication to enforcing and maintaining safe practices on a jobsite. Congratulations to the entire team!
To be eligible for the award, a team must receive the highest average score on their monthly safety audits. During the audit, both positive and negative safety practices are noted, including fall protection, PPE, fire safety, and more. The points are totaled, giving an overall score. Even with over 110,000 manpower hours, the team received the highest score and avoided lost time accidents.
Safety starts with the project team. As the superintendent explained, “To me, the key is safety orientations the first time anyone enters our site, then monthly all-hands meetings. Both times are opportunities for us to talk directly with the laborer on our site. This way, we don’t have to rely on the foreman passing information to them—we can emphasize safety directly to the employees.”
He continued, “At the Yorba Linda Temple, we’ve built a culture where tradespeople trust us with their questions and doubts. They are confident that we will listen to them and address their concern.”
“This project team has made safety a part of their daily activities and immediately identifies and makes corrections if a safety violation is observed. This is done through coaching and training the individual to put their safety first–and not production.” -Director of HSE
This culture of safety was crucial, especially considering the important milestones the project hit this year, which could have presented an array of safety risks. For example, throughout the year, the project team spent months working on structural steel, deep underground utilities, and the steeple tower installation. Through each phase, the team focused on safety, identifying and correcting any issues.
Congratulations to the team on their dedication to safety.
