In May [and Every Month], We Recognize Construction Safety

May is Construction Safety Month! What are we doing to ensure that our personnel and trade partners are safe on our project sites?

Our top priority at Zwick Construction is the safety of our employees and everyone who visits our sites. In order to maintain the safest sites, we employ several processes and strategies to promote a culture of safety.

Accountability

Everyone is responsible for their own safety and the safety of those around them. We encourage our people and trade partners to speak up when they see unsafe practices. As we work to minimize and vocalize risk, we create safe sites.

Trainings

Safety starts with awareness–of our surroundings, equipment, potential hazards, and more–which is why we invest time every day, week, and month to training our people on recognizing and implementing the safest practices.

For example, we highlight safe practices in The Gazette, propagate standard operating procedures, and healthy practices. Throughout the month, we participate in additional trainings, like First Aid/CPR, crane signaling, and more.

OHSA Involvement

To ensure that our construction sites are keeping up with OSHA standards, every project undergoes a monthly safety audit, conducted by Bob French, Director of HSE. This audit takes a deep look into several facets of construction safety, such as PPE, fire safety, fall protection, heat illness protection prevention (HIPP), housekeeping, and more. The project is then given a comprehensive score.

At the end of the calendar year, the project with the highest cumulative score is given Zwick Construction’s “Safe Project of the Year Award.”

We also frequently invite OSHA to come out to our sites. This practice helps us build rapport with the entity and become better in the future.

These are just a few examples of what we are doing to maintain safe sites–through May and every other month.

We recognize that individuals on each jobsite are working daily to maintain a safe environment for their teammates and trade partners. For all that is seen and unseen, thank you.
