Northwest Rec Center
Salt Lake City, UT: Northwest Recreation Center
OWNER: Salt Lake County
ARCHITECT: CRSA Architects
SIZE: 62,000 SF
Built in the northwest part of Salt Lake City, UT, this recreation center was designed and built to support the needs of the growing community and the swim teams of local schools.
It features state-of-the-art Myrtha Pool SystemsTM for the splash pad, lazy river, leisure pool, and a competition-certified lap pool. The aquatic portion of this facility has large windows on three sides, introducing natural light into pool areas.
On the second level, a three-lane track enables walkers/runners to circle the basketball courts and sport courts, and is accessed from the cardio and weight areas.
The public spaces are oversized and welcoming, and many cost-efficient materials were utilized to achieve the architect’s vision, as well as the owner’s budget.
The energy-efficient design of the facility and surrounding landscaping earned a LEED-GoldTM certification—the first of this building type in Utah.
